Installation FAQ
How long does a warehouse label installation take?
Installation timelines depend on facility size, rack count, sign count, and whether the building is active during install. A typical single-facility rack relabel runs from a few days for small operations to several weeks for large distribution centers. CIS builds the schedule around your go-live date and coordinates crew size to meet it.
Can you install warehouse labels while the facility is operating?
Yes. The install customer survey captures whether the project area is in use during install and whether install or client activity takes priority. CIS can work off-hours, weekends, or in phased zones to keep operations moving.
When should I choose retro-reflective rack labels over standard poly?
Retro-reflective face stock is required whenever a rack label must scan from a forklift at more than 10 feet. Standard poly is fine for ground-level pick faces and shelf labels scanned from close range. Retro-reflective returns scanner light directly to the scanner, delivering Grade A/B reads from 30 to 50+ feet.
What is the difference between magnetic, PVC, and adhesive-backed rack labels?
Adhesive-backed is permanent and delivers the longest scan life on clean rack faces. Magnetic backing (typically 0.030 in or 0.060 in) is repositionable for dynamic slotting and works in freezers. PVC-backed labels attach where adhesive fails or holes are prohibited on the rack.
Do you install labels above 6 feet or only at ground level?
Both. The install questionnaire asks whether labels are placed at ground level (under 6 ft) or above ground level (over 6 ft). Above 6 ft requires lift equipment and dictates crew size and safety planning, which CIS provides as part of the managed install.
Can you label a freezer or cold-storage warehouse?
Yes. Specify a freezer-rated adhesive and a face stock rated for the application and service temperature. CIS commonly installs freezer rack labels rated for application temperatures down to -10°F, and magnetic labels are a common choice for freezers because they avoid adhesive failure entirely.
We already have labels on the racks. Do you install coverup labels?
Yes. The install survey captures label coverup quantity separately from new rack label quantity. CleanBeam and CleanBin coverup products are designed to install cleanly over existing labels or to remove old labels without residue.
What data file format do you need for variable-data labels?
Excel (.xlsx) or comma-delimited (.csv) with one row per label. Simple sets use one column (barcode and human-readable identical). Different barcode and human-readable values go in two columns. Arrow-direction labels add a third column with U, R, D, L, or N. Multi-barcode totems alternate BC/HR columns per level.
What racking types do you install labels on?
Single select, double deep, push back, drive in, drive through, and shelving. The install survey also captures beam depth, beam dimensions, beam face type (smooth or indented), and rack condition (new, used, painted, cast) so the crew arrives with the right tooling and adhesive.
What warehouse signage does CIS install alongside rack labels?
